Once an adult, Jane finds work as a governess at Thornfield Hall – the main setting for this novel. However, similarly to Cinderella’s plight, Jane is treated with cruelty and avidly disliked by her Aunt. The novel opens in Gateshead Hall, where Jane resides as a child with her Aunt and cousins.
